I broke some vertebrae when I was 25, I've had nearly 35 years of back problems. I started doing this, and a few other stretching and loosening exercises morning and night, about 3 years ago.
I'm not suggesting I don't still have back issues, but they're not as severe as they were. My spine flexibility is better than its been for years, I can get my outer thighs flat on both sides and hold them there without pain or spasms.
I do it morning and night, and when I'm feeling "achey", wish I was told about this 35 years ago!

Does sleeping on different mattresses lead to "stiffness" of the lower back?
Thankyou Will for your helping videos. I do practise your excersises for knees and back. And I have a request if you could do a video on all of a sudden hit by lower back pain? How can we avoid that, if possible?
I like to start the morning slowly. Pottering around in the kitchen a bit to warm up my muscles and get more supple. Only, after say 20-30 minutes I get pain in my lower back, left. If I push through that it gets worse and I could be back on the couch for most of the day.
Do you have an exercise to prevent that?
